Ole Gunnar Solskjaer unsure if he can keep hold of Angel Gomes

According to Football.london, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unsure if he can keep talented youngster Angel Gomes at the club.

This will be music to the ears of Chelsea, who have been keen on signing the starlet. One of United’s finest prospects, the 19-year-old is out of contract this summer and will be available on a free.

The Red Devils were keen to keep hold of the attacking midfielder. However, now Solskjaer’s admission has thrown open a world of possibilities.

“For me, I’ve not spoken to anyone last night or this morning, so the paperwork and the admin, the meetings that are going on, I can’t update on that.”

Angel Gomes is out of contract this summer

United have been trying to tie down Gomes for some time now. The bone of contention appears to be his role within the squad. Gomes seeks more playing time and is not sure if it can be achieved at United. (h/t MEN)

Given his demands, it is understandable why Chelsea could present a tempting option. The Blues have not shied away from giving youth a chance this season under Frank Lampard.

However, it was more of a necessity rather than a choice is given our transfer ban. With the club looking to invest significantly this summer, it remains to be seen if we will stick to our guns.

Chelsea are set for a busy summer

With the likes of Hakim Ziyech and potentially Kai Havetrz set to join, Gomes could find it difficult to obtain regular playing time. Throw Mason Mount into the mix and the situation isn’t made any easier.

It will be excellent for Chelsea to add another talented youngster to our ranks. However, it remains to be seen if we can satisfy his demands for regular playtime.

It will be better to pass on him rather than bring in someone only for them to be unhappy in the setup.

Gomes is the recipient of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2017. He will look to follow in the shoes of former winners Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

The 19-year-old was also a part of the England Under-17 side that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.
