According to a report from Le10 Sport (h/t Football.london), Chelsea outcast Tiemoue Bakayoko could get a chance to stay in the Premier League next season as Newcastle United are interested in a summer swoop.
Bakayoko signed for Chelsea from AS Monaco in 2017 in a £40m deal. But the midfielder endured a difficult time in England. Having been unable to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman was loaned out to AC Milan last season, where he had a mixed campaign.
Last summer saw the midfielder return to Monaco on loan and he has been able to somewhat rediscover his form since. The 25-year-old featured 23 times across all competitions for his temporary club, scoring one goal and assisting two more.
With the season ending in France, Bakayoko’s future is once again a subject of speculation.
While there have been reports that AC Milan are considering re-signing him, Newcastle United have also expressed an interest in his services. The Magpies, who are set for a huge takeover, are willing to offer £31m for Bakayoko. (h/t Football.london)
Bakayoko’s form may have improved compared to what we got to saw in 2017. But given the wealth of options in our midfield department currently, there is just no place for the Frenchman.
Plus with the club investing heavily in strengthening the squad, we would be best served by cashing in on him, which would help balance the books.
So, a switch away from the Stamford Bridge, on a permanent basis this time out, would be in the best interest of all parties involved. But it remains to be seen if Newcastle United back up the interest with an offer once the transfer window is open for business.
