Manchester United keen on signing Willian

According to France Football (h/t Metro), Manchester United have made contact with the representatives of Chelsea winger Willian.

The Brazilian winger is in the final few weeks of his Chelsea contract and is free to leave for free when it expires. Talks regarding an extension are in limbo following our refusal to give him the three-year deal he wants.

The Blues are also sweating on convincing him to sign a temporary extension that will let him see the season out at Stamford Bridge.

Willian has been excellent during his time at Chelsea

With a transfer looking all the more likely, Willian believes that an injury could see him miss out on a move elsewhere. With Pedro too refusing to commit, Chelsea face a tough task in holding onto the fourth spot.

A veteran of seven seasons, Willian will leave behind a void that the club needs to fill. He has made 329 appearances for Chelsea and has scored 59 goals and 59 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The ability to sign a player of such quality for free will be a godsend to United. The Red Devils have a relatively young frontline and could with a senior presence.

Pedro is also yet to sign a temporary extension

Willian’s disgruntlement at not being offered a three-year extension is understandable. Both Real Madrid and PSG are also interested in the Samba star. However, neither of them are willing to offer him a three-year deal.

Already 31, such a deal will offer him stability for the foreseeable future. He has been a loyal servant to the club and his unwillingness to extend the contract should not be held against him.

The Blues have a fight on their hands to secure the fourth spot. Currently three clear of United, it is imperative that we secure Champions League qualification.

Apart from the top three, we also have to face Watford, Aston Villa, and West Ham United. The latter three are battling relegation and will throw the kitchen sink at us.

Lampard would aware of the issue and has been preparing a contingency plan. Hopefully, Willian’s absence will not deprive us of our rightful place in Europe’s top-tier.
