Former Chelsea star Joe Cole backs club to finish in top four

In an interview with 90min (h/t Metro), Joe Cole has backed former club Chelsea to stave off the threat posed by Manchester United and finish in the top four this season.

The Premier League returned to action this week following a three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Joe Cole backs Chelsea to finish in top four

Chelsea are currently fourth in the table, two points ahead of Manchester United in fifth. However, we do have a game in hand, which could see the gap potentially widen to five.

Former Blues ace Cole reckons that the Red Devils might push the club all the way in the race for the top four. However, he expects Frank Lampard’s men to ultimately prevail and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next term. (h/t Metro)

“I think Man Utd will push all the way. I don’t think Chelsea will fall, Frank will have enough. I think Chelsea will be fine, I think Frank will be fine.”

The ex-England international did go on to say that if any team that would drop out from the current top four it would Leicester City, as they are lacking the requisite experience to hold off the pressure coming from the teams below. (h/t Metro)

Chelsea return to action this Sunday with a game against relegation battlers Aston Villa.

We were unbeaten in our last three matches prior to the stoppage in play. Hopefully, the players are able to carry on from where they left off and end the season as high on the table as possible.
