According to France Football (h/t Express), Chelsea have identified PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa as a cheaper alternative to Ben Chilwell.
Frank Lampard is a fan of the Leicester City star. However, with the Foxes demanding up to £80million for his services, we may be forced to look elsewhere.
Having already signed Hakim Ziyech, we also have a deal in principle agreed for Timo Werner. Adding Chilwell to the mix will take our spending to around £150m.
Kurzawa’s contract expires this summer. He has been given the green light to leave PSG and has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.
Arch-rivals Arsenal are also in for him and have agreed on a five-year deal. The report also goes on to say that he has had talks with Chelsea representatives. (h/t Express)
Having joined PSG in 2015 from Monaco, Kurzawa has gone on to enjoy a trophy-laden stint at the Parc des Princes. He has made 123 appearances for PSG with an impressive return of 12 goals and 21 assists for a full-back. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Left-back is a position we need to strengthen this summer. Both Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso appear to be on their way out, making reinforcement a necessity.
Chilwell is a better player with a higher potential. Kurzawa, however, is someone who has experience of playing in the Champions League and also winning trophies.
Add to it the fact that he is available for free, it is clear why he is an attractive option. Whether we will go for him or not remains to be seen.
