The Uruguayan superstar’s contract at PSG runs out this summer and the player looks set to leave after a trophy laden 7 seasons in the French capital.

Having joined from Napoli in 2013, Cavani has gone on to make 290 appearances for PSG scoring 198 goals.(h/t Whoscored)

At PSG Cavani formed one of Europe’s potent strike forces alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar and is on the verge of his 6th Ligue 1 title in 8 years.

The biggest threat comes from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid who have already tabled a pre-contract agreement for the Uruguayan.(h/t Mirror)

With the contract yet unsigned, Chelsea still have a chance to swoop in at the last moment and steal the striker from under Atletico’s noses.

Right player at the right time?

Under Lampard, Chelsea are building a youthful squad that has shown a lot of promise. One attribute in which we seem to lack is experience.

Cavani, who will be 33 next month still has a couple of good seasons under his belt and should prove to be both a mentor and an excellent backup for Tammy Abraham.

Abraham is having a stellar season and currently average a goal every two games. However,at times his lack of experience shows. An experienced pro like Cavani would be the ideal person to provide guidance and advice to the young Englishman and if necessary came on and do a job himself.

A player of Cavani’s quality do not become available for free often and the Blues should take advantage of this situation.

Cavani is Uruguay’s second highest goalscorer of all time and the nation’s third most capped player. He was part of the Uruguyan squad that won the Copa America in 2011.
