Chelsea face Derby County in a testing Carabao Cup fourth round fixture next week. The Rams are managed by legendary midfielder Frank Lampard, who knocked Manchester United out in the previous round.
The Championship club have a couple of Chelsea youngsters on loan and have permitted the pair to play against us.
Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have done well at Pride Park stadium, and the club believed this experience would be useful to the pair. A statement released from the club read:
“Mount and Tomori have been regulars for the Rams under Frank Lampard this season, and, after beating Manchester United at Old Trafford in the previous round, we believe the experience of facing top-level opposition once more will be of benefit to their on-going development at Derby.”
It would be strange to see a couple of our players taking the field against us. However, several fans were pleased with the decision and applauded the club on Twitter.
