As per a report from Football London, Chelsea and Arsenal will go head-to-head to secure a summer deal for Juventus star Gonzalo Higuain. With the upcoming transfer window, the pressure is mounting on Antonio Conte to sign some top-quality players.
Despite being the defending champions, we have not lived up to our potential this season and it is evident that our team requires strengthening in a lot of areas.
The report has gone on to claim that Higuain has always been a fan of English football and he might be open to moving to this side of the continent.
The forward might be 30 years of age but his pace and skills on the field appear to be unaffected. He has appeared 48 times for Juventus in all competitions this season, scoring 23 goals and providing 7 assists. A player as experienced and powerful as Higuain could truly be a wonderful addition to any side.
As far as Chelsea are concerned, we already have the likes of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud battling it out for the role of the centre-forward.
Furthermore, Michy Batshuayi will be done with his loan at Borussia Dortmund and if we choose to retain his services, Higuain would be surplus to requirement.
On paper, Higuain could add immense value to our side but it would be wise to pursue him only if one of our current strikers were to exit. It can be argued that Chelsea need a replacement for Morata but surely, a 30-year-old would be far from being the ideal long-term replacement.
It remains to be seen how the situation plays out but one thing is for certain – Chelsea do not need another striker unless one of our current options seek an exit.
