Chelsea Prepared To Splash The Cash And Sign As Much As 3 Players In January According To Reports

Chelsea are keen to bolster their squad by bringing in fresh players in January, according to reports in British media. Antonio Conte is currently not happy with the squad and wants to try and significantly bolster his squad in the mid-season transfer window as the Blues look to get themselves back into the title race, reports the Daily Mail.

Our manager is keen to keep most of his squad intact and is in no mood to offload players in the winter transfer window unless we receive an extraordinary amount of money for a particular player. Instead, he is looking to add few players as the fixtures pile up and his squad is stretched.

Given Marcos Alonso is our only player available at the highly demanding left-wing back position, Conte is said to be on the hunt for a new full-back to compete with the Spaniard and also provide him rest. Alonso, who has made 22 appearances this season, has been a consistent performer on the left since last year but lack of options has seen him play regularly without a significant amount of rest.

A new left wing-back should take the extra pressure off him and give him the rest he thoroughly deserves. And according to The Sun, the Premier League champions are interested in signing defender Alex Sandro from Juventus.

Alex Sandro

Sandro, 26, has made it clear to the Italian giants he wants out of Serie A and his preference is to move to Stamford Bridge in January. The full-back’s relationship with the Serie A champions has deteriorated as the season has gone on and Juventus could be forced to sell their prized asset in January itself.

It is clear that Conte is not happy with Michy Batshuayi and is on the lookout for a centre-forward to act as back-up for Alvaro Morata. Morata’s fine start to his debut season in England has seen Batshuayi warm the benches on a consistent basis.

The Belgian hit-man has failed to integrate into Conte’s system and the Blues are willing to allow him to move back to Ligue 1 on loan in January. The ex-Marseille ace has scored only 2 league goals this term and is not a key part of our manager’s plans.

Thomas Lemar

The Daily Telegraph reports the English giants are interested in signing Thomas Lemar from Monaco and Batshuayi could be one of the first names up for discussion to head in the opposite direction, in what is understood to be a swap deal.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey is also reportedly on Chelsea’s radar and the Daily Mail claim the German club rebuffed a £22m offer as they are holding out for more.

With David Luiz out with a knee injury, Conte could also look to bring in a central defender in the winter transfer market.

Interesting isn’t it? We’ve been linked with a lot of players and there are areas in our squad that need strengthening. We’ll have to wait to see what Conte decides to do in January.
