Who is Christian Cuevas?

Good question. A quick search of Google and YouTube, and immediately your sanity is questioned. Christian Cueva, that is who you are looking for isn’t it. No, it certainly isn’t.

You can bet it is only a matter of time before Cuevas – known as ‘Cimby’ – outguns his fellow South American though, after Chelsea added him to their ranks, paying £1.7million for the 17 year old.

You would stake your house on the fact he will be joining the ever-growing list of youngsters out on loan from the club (21 to be exact) but the tricky winger certainly looks another talent to watch out for in years to come.

The Blues have been on the tail of the youngster for two years now, a trial in November was deemed a success, and after his success for Chile in the South American U20 Championships last month, the deal was completed over the last few days.

Speaking on our favourite Chilean radio station ‘Radio Cooperativa’ Christian admittedI am already taking English classes so I can integrate quickly. It will be a big change. I could account for all the differences there were when I was there. But I am calm and very happy”

He scored twice and managed to get sent off in his eight games for Chile U20s in 2013, as they finished 4th, and whilst he has yet to score for his domestic club O’Higgins, he did manage the remarkable feat of getting sent off after just 17 minutes last weekend, coming onto the field after 63 minutes, before a straight red with 10 minutes remaining. Even more amusing, was the fact O’Higgins were 2-1 down when ‘Cimbi’ got sent-off, only to end 3-2 victors in the match.

La Celeste certainly aren’t known to produce world-beaters, but Premier League fans will know of Jean Beausejour, currently at Wigan, who has been one of the big players for them in recent seasons.

After a thorough browse of YouTube, the video below shows just what to expect from the young winger, after 40 seconds of celebrations and a heart rendering appeal against a red card, we get to see just what has made Cuevas one of the most sought after prospects in South America. Fancy flicks, and feet quicker than a fleet of tap dancers, it’s just another massive talent that we may well see on the Stamford Bridge turf in years to come.

What are your thoughts on the Chilean wonder kid?
