Chelsea Can’t Break Teams Down- Cahill

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has revealed in the betting news why he thinks that the Blues have come unstuck in recent games against QPR and Swansea. The 27-year old puts the two shock defeats down to a lack of incision and has called upon his teammates to regain their consistency if they are to turn their season round.

“We’re finding it difficult at the moment when teams camp in and put up two blocks of four for us to break down,” the former Bolton man said, following Chelsea’s recent 2-0 defeat to Swansea in the Capital One Cup. In that game Chelsea enjoyed 2/3rds of possession and had nearly five times as many shots on goals as Swansea but they still came away empty handed and this is a frustration for Cahill; “We’re having all the possession, but it counts for nothing unless you create a lot,” he said.

Chelsea’s recent form hasn’t been all bad, however, and their 5-1 hammering of Southampton in the FA Cup (see the latest FA Cup odds with bet365) proves that they have the ability to score goals. For Cahill, the biggest challenge is being able to repeat that form game after game. “Sometimes we are playing fantastic stuff like against Southampton and Everton – but then we chucked it away against QPR and Swansea,” Cahill said. “We just have to be consistent in what we are doing.”

It may be true that teams set out to stifle Chelsea’s creativity when they visit Stamford Bridge, but this is nothing new. Away sides have come to Chelsea and ‘parked the bus’ for a number of seasons now, and Gary Cahill’s words will only encourage them to continue doing so. With creative players like Oscar and Juan Mata at their disposal Chelsea should have everything they need to break down the majority of Premier League defences but if they can’t find a way of doing it consistently, and soon, then they will end the season empty handed.
