From The Opposition Corner…….Wigan

Today we face Wigan Athletic, The Latics, under the stewardship of Roberto Martinez, who was being sniffed at by the likes of Liverpool during the off season.

Wigan have always been known as a side to start slowly, but always seem to pull an escape out of the bag, no less than last season, as relegation loomed, they won 7 of their last 9 games to ensure survival, including 4 home games on the trot.

Arouna Kone, Ivan Ramis, and Ryo Miyaichi have joined them this summer, whilst Rodallega moved to Fulham, and Victor Moses is the subject of high demand, mostly from us.

Chelsea should win this on paper, but as we all know, football isn’t played on paper, so we spoke to Wigan fan, Martin Haisley, ahead of the game, to find out what he thought of his sides opening game against us.

Hello Martin, firstly, your manager Roberto Martinez was much sought after this summer, how glad are you that he stayed?
I think it was better than any signing we could’ve made. The brand of football we play is beautiful and a pleasure to watch.

Where do you think he can take Wigan this season?
Honestly think we can get close to the top 10, What we’ve lacked in previous years is experience and that’s what we have signed.

Wigan have made a few decent signings this summer, who are you looking forward to seeing most?
Most would say Kone but mine is Miyaichi, he has bags of pace and recommended from my Bolton friends.

If you could take one player from Chelsea’s side to put into yours, who would it be?
Ashley Cole. Brilliant Left-Back, probably the best in the world. Love watching him join the attack, and he’s not too shabby at defending.

And finally, what do you think todays score will be?
2-1 Wigan, Maloney and Kone for Wigan. We will keep up our run from the end of last season.

Thanks for your time Martin, and you can catch him on Twitter @MartinAHaisley

What do you think todays score will be? Will Martin be right and shock the European Champions, or will it be business as usual for the mighty Blues?
