Summary
It was three wins in a row for Chelsea as John Terry and Daniel Sturridge were on the score sheet in the 2-1 win.
Petr Cech was back in the starting XI and David Luiz was back in the squad after recovering from his thigh injury and was among the substitutes. Raul Miereles made his debut and Oriel Romeu also made his first Blues’ appearance when he came on in the 77th minute.
Match Analysis
The victory backed up Andre Villas Boas’ decision to start Sturridge over Torres. The cheeky back heel scored by 22-year-old Sturridge was enough for the win. It was a great long pass by new signing Miereles, who had great vision to see the movement of Sturridge.
Torres came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute. Chelsea’s tempo was mostly fast in the first half but after the second goal, the tempo slowed down and so did the momentum allowing Sunderland to score a goal.
Juan Mata produced yet another outstanding performance and created many good chances. Mata chipped a great free-kick only for it to come off the post before Terry scored. Our midfield looked strong, which consisted of Frank Lampard, Ramires, and Raul Miereles who all played well.
We could’ve easily won the match with a few more goals after Anelka, Lampard and Mata failed to capitalize on some good chances.
Overall
Chelsea remain unbeaten this season, and it was a great performance by the Blues.
Next up for Chelsea is the Champions League tie at home against Bayer Leverkusen, where we will welcome midfielder Michael Ballack back to Bridge as he is part of the Bayer squad.
Looking a game ahead, next week the Blues take on Manchester United at Old Trafford which will be another thriller not to miss.
