Pastore Gone … AVB Takes a Cautious Approach to Transfers

Zamparini told ‘Radio Radio’ this morning that Palermo had agreed a fee of €43 million with PSG for the transfer of Pastore, this means the Argentine simply has to agree personal terms with the French club and he will join them.

I expect PSG to officially announce their signing today…

We may have lost out on Pastore but I’m not worried, I believe if we wanted him badly then we would have signed him. Remember, we signed Torres in January for a record fee because we wanted him badly. PSG valued Pastore more than us and they showed it by placing a higher bid than us – It is that simple.

I have examined Villas-Boas’ attitude to the transfer market since he arrived at Chelsea, I don’t think he believes in big money signings or marquee players. When Villas-Boas was quizzed on Chelsea’s offer of £22million offer for Modric, he simply said: “We respect whatever position Tottenham takes, and the prices we are talking about is an incredible amount of money.”

Villas-Boas first signing of the season has been Oriol Romeu for £5million, he has already stated that he sees Romeu standing in for Essien when we could have easily signed Vidal for £17 million to challenge Essien for first team. I doubt many fans believe that a £5 million signing can fit in Essien’s role, but Villas-Boas believes the 19-year-old can do it and I have to trust his instincts.

Skysports has linked us with Scott Dann, but new news cropped up that Villas-Boas is hoping Rajkovic is granted a UK working visa. If Rajkovic gets his visa, then we wouldn’t need to sign the Birmingham defender. Villas-Boas is taking a wise approach to his signings, he knows the fans are hungry for a marquee player but if he is going to get us one, it has to be in the right positions. I would not be surprised if we signed one more relatively unknown talent and one reasonably priced marquee player this window.

There are many quality players still available for transfer this window, just a few that come to mind are Sneijder, Modric and Gotze who are still up for grabs. Please, do not fret that we have not signed one yet because there is still more time in the transfer window.
