Ex-Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim’s 7th minute own goal gave Chelsea a narrow victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The Israeli centre-back flicked Fernando Torres’s cross past his own keeper to give André Villas-Boas victory in his first friendly.
As expected, Villas-Boas played two completely different sides in each half, allowing his players a run-out before they head to Asia.
In the first-half, Torres has a good opportunity to double the lead in the 21st minute, only for him put the ball wide after it falling to him in a good position from a Yury Zhirkov corner.
In the second-half Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Nicolas Anelka all came on in the second half but failed to add a second.
The home team had an excellent opportunity to equalize in the second-half when Hilario brought down Luke Varney, the striker got up to take the spot kick only for the Portuguese keeper to dive to left and make an excellent save.
Next up is a Malaysia XI on July 21.
