So who is Villas-Boas?

Chelsea are reportedly set to sign Andre Villas-Boas in the next couple of days as the new Blues manager, but what do we know about him?
This 33 year old Portugese football manager is currently managing F.C. Porto. Accoding to reports he is regarded as unique in the sense that he has no football playing experience, became a coach of a major club with very little head coaching experience, and achieved this role at a very young age.
He is currently the youngest football manager in the Portuguese league and the youngest manager in history to win a European title.
Should Villas-Boas return to Chelsea he will know many of the Blues squad, having been one of Jose Mourinho’s hand-picked staff when the “Special One” came to the club in 2004.
He was responsible for putting together the detailed technical reports on every opponent that was the hallmark of Mourinho’s Chelsea reign and was one of his key lieutenants and supporters.
Roman Abramovich is said to have already agreed to pay Porto’s £13million release clause to let him for the Premier League.
A Chelsea spokesman has said:
“We hope to be able to make an announcement regarding the new manager in the next few days or so, but until then we will not be commenting further on the speculation surrounding that appointment.”
Courtesy of Wikipedia, here are a few stats on the hotly tipped new Chelsea Manager.
In his first season as coach for F.C. Porto, Villas-Boas set the following records:
  • By winning the UEFA Europa League, he is the youngest manager ever to win a European competition, at 33 years and 213 days of age.
  • The club record for the most matches across all competitions unbeaten (36). This record was previously held by José Mourinho at 33 matches.
  • The most wins in Europe in one season by a Portuguese club (14)
  • The most points in a 30-game Portuguese league season (84)
  • The highest number of consecutive wins in the Portuguese league (16)
  • The biggest margin over the second placed team in the league (21)
  • The only team to win the Portuguese league without being beaten aside from Benfica in 1972/73.
So with stats like these we think AVB would be a welcome addition to the Bridge and lead us to many victories.
Watch this space….
