Chelsea FC: Chelsea Blues

When Chelsea are mentioned at the moment its Neymar this, Luka Modric that; but before players can come in, some needs to move on through the exit door. With Alex and Didier Drogba being mentioned to leave, who else should Chelsea get rid of?

The first player should be youngster Jeffrey Bruma. Yes he is young, but I cannot see much future talent. Although a recent call-up to the Holland squad could help his recognition, it certainly wasn’t missed at the Walkers Stadium, where he went to Leicester City on loan last season and saw more red cards then goals.

Joining Bruma in a move should be Yuri Zhirkov. He was a great player for Russia in Euro 2008, and is still a great player when he starts. But with Ashley Cole in the way, it’s hard for Zhirkov to break through; therefore, the best move for him would be a transfer. This is, however, if Chelsea can keep hold of reserve left back Patrick Van Aarnholt, who looks one for the future.

The third and final defender should be Paulo Ferreira. Since his arrival in 2003, he has played many games for the Blues, but it is rare to see him on the bench nowadays. With Jose Bosingwa, Branislav Ivanovic and Ryan Bertrand able to play at right back, there is no need for the 32-year-old.

Now for a midfield clearout, and a player who I’ve never been a fan of: John Obi Mikel. Again, a player who has seen more red cards then goals, the central midfielder has stiff competition with Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Ramires and the potential signing of Luka Modric.

The final player that should leave is Yossi Benayoun. The Israeli has had a tough time at the Bridge since his bad injury he sustained against Newcastle United in the Carling Cup third round. Even though he has plenty of experience and technicality, he seems a wasted player with Chelsea and the best move for him should be another transfer.

Overall, I would like to keep the likes of Zhirkov and Benayoun as they are influential players when the time is right. But as long as Chelsea holds onto the key youngsters, there is no room for these.

However, a player Chelsea should definitely keep is striker Daniel Sturridge. He had a terrific loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last season and is currently playing well in the Euro under-21’s for England. Danny and Fernando Torres would make a great future partnership!
