West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United to step up efforts to land Conor Gallagher

According to the Daily Mail, newly promoted duo Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion look set to battle it out for Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher.

The youngster impressed while on loan at Championship outfit Charlton Athletic for the first half of the 2019/20 season.

He spent the second half of the campaign at another Championship side – Swansea City. Gallagher played a key role as they finished in a playoff spot. Unfortunately, they could not get past Brentford in the semifinals and saw their promotion dreams go up in smoke.

His performances garnered the attention of a number of clubs including Crystal Palace. The Eagles are closing in on a loan move for another Chelsea player – Michy Batshuayi.

Landing the Belgian will see them miss out on an opportunity to land Gallagher. Premier League rules stipulate that a club cannot loan more than one player from the same club in the same window. (h/t Daily Mail)

This should open the door for West Brom and Leeds to go up against each other for the coveted youngster.

According to the report, Chelsea plan to hand Gallagher a new contract once he returns from international duty. He will then be allowed to go out on loan for a season in the Premier League. 

The Blues are keen for the 20-year-old to build upon the promise he showed last season. Chelsea are keen to ensure Gallagher gets enough game time regardless of where he ends up.
