Transfer blow for Chelsea as Ligue 1 hotshot downplays rumours of summer exit

Neymar has ‘no intention’ of leaving PSG amidst Chelsea interest

Brazil international Neymar has ‘no intention’ of leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) amidst interest from Chelsea, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Sun].

The 31-year-old is intent on spending the rest of his career with the Parisians. Last year, the forward activated a clause in his contract that will keep the superstar at the Parc des Princes side until the summer of 2027, and he intends to honour the deal.

Neymar signed for PSG in the summer of 2017 from Barcelona. Since then, the Brazilian has starred for the Parisians season after season. However, injuries have hampered his time in France.

The 31-year-old was enjoying a fruitful campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing 17 assists in 29 appearances in all competitions. But he is now out for the rest of the season after picking up an ankle injury in the 4-3 win over LOSC Lille.

Christophe Galtier has other quality forwards at his disposal as well in Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. However, the France international is about to enter the final year of his contract.

On the other hand, the 2022 World Cup-winning Argentine could choose to leave at the end of the campaign. PSG seemingly lack depth up front. Hugo Ekitike is the only established forward they have on the bench.

Chelsea have made a number of additions to their attack in the previous two transfer windows. Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were signed last summer.

In January, the Blues splashed more money on forwards, with Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix making their way to West London. We also have the likes of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, amongst others, in our ranks.

Therefore, Chelsea have enough depth up front. While Neymar is a quality player, we seemingly need to focus on strengthening other departments.
