What Chelsea learnt from England vs Brazil.

It was a night of highs and lows for Chelsea fans as six of our first-team squad were in action in a thrilling friendly at Wembley last night.

England outplayed Brazil, who were simply not at the races first-half, their only shining light was our midfield genius, Oscar, who tormented the whole back four, but had most luck against our centurion Ashley Cole, who this seemed more like a training exercise if we must be honest.

Ashley Cole - An England Great.

For nearly twelve years, Ashley Cole has been one of the first names on Englands team sheet. 99 caps, 99 starts, and tonight he is set to reach his century in enormously fitting fashion, against the five-time World Champions, Brazil, to the backdrop of a passionate Wembley crowd.

He sits seventh in the all-time capped England players list, and for a man who should be considered almost a national treasure, he is surprisingly scorned upon by a large portion of English fans. No-one can argue his passion, commitment, and quality on the pitch, and his ability to rise to almost any challenge put in his way.

When it came to his retirement on Sunday evening, it definitely seems like Terry was jumping overboard before being pushed.

Despite being cleared in a court of law over the Ferdinand incident, the FA decided they were going to go ahead with pressing charges on the England captain, who won a massive 78 caps for the Three Lions between 2003 and 2012.

With John Terry injured for England’s game tonight against Ukraine at Wembley, Frank Lampard believes Gary Cahill is the man to replace his Chelsea team-mate.

That’s likely to be the case, with national manager Roy Hodgson set to pick Cahill to partner Joleon Lescott in the heart of the defence, preferring him to Everton’s Phil Jagielka, and Lampard cites last seasons’ performances in the Champions’ League from Cahill as the main premise for his inclusion.
