Derby County among Championship sides keen on signing this out of favour Chelsea star

Derby County among teams interested in Chelsea defender Baba Rahman

According to the Express (h/t Derby Telegraph), Derby County are among a host of Championship sides keen on Chelsea outcast Baba Rahman.

Signed from FC Augsburg in 2015, Rahman has made just 23 appearances for the club. In fact, he has failed to make an appearance for the Blues since his first season on English shores.

Chelsea fans can be forgiven for not being aware that Rahman was still at the club. After all, he spent five spells out on loan at three different teams.

Rahman has less than two years left on his Chelsea contract. With the likes of Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri all available, the Ghanaian is at best the fourth choice left-back at the club.

It would appear that a number of second-tier sides could offer Rahman an escape route from the Bridge. Chelsea are ready to offload him as boss Frank Lampard contemplates shifting out several players from his squad at the Bridge.

It is not the first time that Championship sides have expressed their interest in him. Watford and Middlesborough were both keen on him in the summer but a deal could not be agreed upon. (h/t The Sun)

It is unfortunate that the player could not cut it at the Bridge. The move was a dream come true for the player’s father. A Chelsea supporter, his son honours him by using the prefix Baba in his name. (h/t Express)

Rahman has represented Ghana at the international level. He has so far made 25 appearances for his country.

At 26, Rahman has a good number of years left in him and could be quite a decent player for another team.

Just because he could not cut it at Chelsea does not mean he wouldn’t be an asset elsewhere. Just where he eventually ends up remains to be seen.
